Based on the study of the works of domestic and foreign scientists (N=500), relevant approaches to understanding the term "artificial intelligence" are outlined, as well as the main problems and prospects of its application in various fields of activity, focusing on the mass media. In the media sphere, researchers point out three main areas: automated marketing, robotic content creation, and content analysis tools. The conclusions demonstrate the opinion of scientists about the justification of the use of artificial intelligence and its necessity as a timely stage in the development of mass media, while the field of marketing and advertising has turned out to be the most successful for its implementation at the moment. The use of AI in journalism, in particular, for content creation, still raises the greatest number of questions, since often artificial intelligence tools require improvement and refinement, and the journalists themselves and the audience – a full understanding of the functioning of these services.
